Ferrari) will be transitioning from her role in Grey’s to the spinoff Station 19.

ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy focuses primarily on the lives of the young doctors at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital from the time they were interns and up until their years spent as surgical attendings. The show stars Ellen Pompeo (Catch Me If You Can, Old School) as Meredith Grey, Justin Chambers (The Wedding PlannerCold Case) as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson (Accidental Friendship) as Miranda Bailey, Patrick Dempsey (Made of Honor, Enchanted) as Derek Shepherd, and Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, The Princess Diaries) as Cristina Yang. The drama began in 2005 and has run for 16 seasons with no end in sight. The series has been well received by critics and audiences, resulting in several spinoff series, including Private Practice, Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team, and Station 19.

Meanwhile, Station 19 follows former main cast member from Grey’s Anatomy Ben Warren, played by Jason Winston George (Sunset beach, Off The Map), as he leaves his job as an anesthesiologist at Seattle Grace and becomes a firefighter at Station 19 in Seattle. George’s character makes several appearances in Grey’s Anatomy due to his marriage to general surgeon Miranda Bailey. Station 19 also stars Jaina Lee Ortiz (Rosewood, The After), Danielle Savre (Deep Blue Sea 2Bring It On: All Or Nothing), Jay Hayden (The Catch, Wild Oats), and Barrett Doss (Marshall).

Flood initially joined the Grey’s cast in season 16 as pediatric surgeon Dr. Cormack Hayes who is considered Meredith’s, played by Pompeo, new love interest. After being sent as a “gift” from cardiac surgeon Cristina Yang, played by Oh, in Switzerland, the duo bonded and eventually became friends, via The Hollywood Reporter

Hill guest starred in the last season of Grey’s as Dr. Winston Ndugu, Maggie Pierce’s, played by Kelly McCreary (Emily Owens, M.D.), former student. After running into each other and catching up at a medical conference, Hill’s character is considered Maggie’s main love interest going into season 17.

Meanwhile, Spampinato maintained a recurring role in Grey’s as Andrew DeLuca’s, played by Giacomo Gianniotti (Reign, Selfie), sister. She also soon became a recurring role on Station 19 where she began dating Maya Bishop, played by Savre. She will completely transition into a main cast member of Station 19 this upcoming season.

In a statement, Krista Vernoff (Shameless, Charmed), the showrunner of both dramas, said, “I am so excited to add Anthony Hill, Stefania Spampinato, and Richard Flood to the Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy families. They are huge talents who made a big impact with our fans, with our cast, and with our writers who are eager to write more for them,” via The Hollywood Reporter

Vernoff has previously announced that the upcoming season of Grey’s Anatomy will include the coronavirus pandemic, however, official return dates for either show have not been determined yet.
