Game Of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin (Song Of Ice And Fire) did not attend the premiere of the upcoming Game Of Thrones spinoff prequel series, House Of The Dragon, after testing positive for COVID-19, according to ComicBook.com. Martin confirmed that he would miss the premiere after contracting the virus in a video that was uploaded to his website.
Martin appeared in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday to promote and preview the upcoming spinoff series alongside co-creator and executive producer Ryan J. Condal as well as cast members Paddy Considine (Dead Man’s Shoes), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers), Steve Toussaint (Red, White, And Blue), Eve Best (Much Ado About Nothing), Fabien Frankel (The Serpent), Milly Alcock (The School), and Emily Carey (Where Is Anne Frank).
Martin said in the video that he is experiencing mild symptoms.
“I was a startled as any of you because I did not really think I had any symptoms or very, very minor symptoms,” Martin said. “I was sniffling a little, and that’s pretty much still where I am. This is the second day, I’m still sniffling a little and occasionally coughing, but mostly I feel fine.”
Martin also discussed how he had decided to be cautious of the virus while at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend.
“I decided to be very cautious and conservative. I did the panel, and that was a lot of fun, but I skipped all of the parties. I did not go on the convention floor, and I canceled my in-person autographing and I went out for a few meals. And that was fine,” Martin said.
House Of The Dragon, which is based on Martin’s book Fire & Blood and set 200 years before the events of Game Of Thrones, will release on HBO and HBO Max on August 21st.
