FXX Renews ‘Archer’ for Season 12

FXX has announced that its long-running animated series Archer has been renewed for a twelfth season, according to Deadline. Archer has most recently premiered its eleventh season on September 16 following a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Created by Adam Reed (Frisky Dingo), the series premiered in 2009 on FXX’s parent network FX. The series is executive produced by the likes of Matt Thompson (Frisky Dingo, Sealab 2021), Casey Willis (The Gumball Machine), and Reed. The series has also seen a spike in viewership during its eleventh season with new episodes being made available on FX on Hulu.

Archer centers on a group of secret agents that work for the International Secret Intelligence Service, although the agency’s name has been subject to change throughout various seasons. However, despite being secret agents, the crew is composed of dysfunctional actors that play the series into its comedy genre. The series has been known to shift themes for individual seasons such as season five’s Archer Vice, season eight’s Archer Dreamland, season nine’s Archer: Danger Island, and season ten’s Archer: 1999. These anthology seasons are due to the main character Sterling Archer being in a coma. The eleventh saw Archer be able to regain consciousness and reintegrate back into the secret agency.

The series cast includes the likes of H. Jon Benjamin (Bob’s Burgers) as Sterling Archer, Aisha Tyler (Criminal Minds) as Lana, Jessica Walter (Arrested Development) as Malory Archer, Lucky Yates (Frisky Dingo) as Dr. Krieger, Amber Nash (Frisky Dingo) as Pam, Judy Greer (13 Going on 30, Arrested Development) as Cheryl, Reed as Ray, and Chris Parnell (Rick and Morty, Saturday Night Live) as Cyril Figgis.

Currently, it is unknown when production will begin or the upcoming season will premiere.
