We finally have a first look at American Horror Story season six!
The teaser was released by Vice on Snapchat of all places, which explains the orientation of the video. And if you didn’t happen catch it on Snapchat, don’t worry. Thankfully a Lady Gaga fan Twitter account posted the video for all to enjoy.

As you can see, the theme for the season is still unclear. Just last month FX released the first hint for the season six theme in the form of a logo which combined the number six with a question mark. That same logo can be seen in the trailer as the smoke rising from the house in the first shot also forms the question mark-number six symbol. The teaser also shows some typical disturbing footage for the sixth season such as the creepy mobile above the crib, the equally scary demon-baby hand, and the hands grabbing at someone’s running feet.

The teaser trailer does not give us much to go on, but the shot of the crib in particular hints at what Ryan Murphy alluded to at Paley Fest. The American Horror Story creator has been quoted saying, “The interesting thing about the next season is that we’ve been working on two ideas at once, which we’ve never done.” Murphy went on to say that the type of horror in AHS “often deals with the innocence of children, and their wide-eyed way into it. Both (Season six) ideas we’re working with have elements of children.”
Some fans of the show have speculated that the “children” aspect Murphy spoke about might mean the subtitle for season six could be American Horror Story: Orphanage. After the teaser was released, however, there has been speculation that season six will pick up where the first season left off. Some believe the demonic hand we see grab at the crib mobile is Michael, the unholy child Vivian (Connie Britton) gave birth to and then Constance (Jessica Lange) took to go raise.
There is also the fan theory that one of the themes of the upcoming season has to do with demon worshipers. The most popular and compelling theory as to what the number six in the logo represents is the number 666.
Regardless of the theme for the upcoming season, we can certainly count on it being as compelling and morbid as ever.
American Horror Story returns for its sixth season on FX September 14.
