The newest installment of FX on Hulu’s anthology series American Crime Story is set to start filming this fall, according to Variety. The new season, American Crime Story: Impeachment, was supposed to start production in spring but the Coronavirus pandemic halted production.
This season follows the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal that resulted in the impeachment of President Bill Clinton. The scandal involved President Clinton having an affair with a white house intern, Monica Lewinsky. Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart, Lady bird) will take on the role of Monica Lewinsky and Clive Owen (Gemini Man, Closer) will play Clinton. Other cast members include; Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story, Ratched), Annaleigh Ashford (Masters of Sex, Unbelievable), Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street, Difficult People), and Betty Gilpin (GLOW, The Hunt).
Originally, Murphy optioned the book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal that Nearly Brought Down a President by Jeffery Toobin. He was going to use Toobin’s account of the events to write the series. Murphy realized that this story cannot be told without Lewinsky on their team. In August 0f 2019, Lewinsky was brought on as a producer.
Richard Shepard (The Perfection, Girls) was signed on to executive produce/direct the series but had decided to leave the project when Coronavirus hit. Michael Uppendahl, who has worked with Murphy on Ratched and Hollywood, is taking over Shepard’s role as EP/Producing Director.
The series was supposed to premiere on September 27th, 2020 on FX, according to the show’s Twitter account.
With the show starting to shoot this fall, a premiere date has not yet been released.
