FX Moves August Release of ‘A Murder at the End of the World’ Due to Strikes

A high-profile cable series has been moved to adjust to the current strikes impacting Hollywood. According to Deadline, FX has elected to move A Murder at the End of the World from its summer release date to later this fall. The limited series was originally set to premiere on Hulu in August. It will now premiere in November.

The limited series formerly titled Retreat is created by Zal Batmanglij (The East, Sound of my Voice) and Brit Marling (The OA, Another Earth). Starring Emma Corrin (The Crown, Pennyworth) and Clive Owen (Children of Men, Closer), the seven-episode series is set on a remote island owned by an elusive billionaire played by Owen. Owen’s character invites an array of public figures to this oasis for a weekend getaway. One of those guests is Corrin’s Darby Hart, an esteemed hacker and Gen-Z sleuth. When a guest is found murdered, Hart tasks herself with solving the crime before another casualty.

According to Deadline, the cast includes Marling, Harris Dickinson (Clique, Trust), Edoardo Ballerini (The Sopranos, Charmed), Alice Braga (Queen of the South, The Suicide Squad), Louis Cancelmi (Billions, Boardwalk Empire), Joan Chen (Twin Peaks, Marco Polo), Jermaine Fowler (Judas and the Black Messiah, Sorry to Bother You), Pegah Ferydoni (Almania, SOKO Hamburg), Raúl Esparza (Law and Order: SVU, Hannibal), Neal Huff (The Sinner, Falling Water), Britian Seibert (The Knick), Javed Khan (Nukkad, Vishnu Puran), Christopher Gurr (The Good Fight, The Gilded Age), Kellan Tetlow (The Saint of the Impossible, This Is Us), Daniel Olson (Spider-Man: Far From Home, Our Flag Means Death), and Ryan J. Haddad (The Politician, Love, Repeat).

Batmanglij and Marling serve as executive producers along with Melanie Marnich (Big Love, The Affair), Andrea Sperling (Breaking the Girls, Fresno), and Nicki Paluga (Ash vs the Evil Dead, Perception) via Deadline. The series was filmed in Iceland, New Jersey, and Utah and is produced by FX Productions.

The dual strikes by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA have ground most productions to standstill. While some have received waivers to continue filming, all TV productions in Los Angeles have halted. Broadcast networks have had to reconfigure their upcoming fall schedules. Along with shows pausing production, The Emmys announced they will be delaying the 75th annual awards ceremony. Originally set for a September 18th airing, the show is now looking at a possible January release.
