FX Gives Series Order to Political Drama ‘Tyrant’

The drama created by Gideon Raff (Homeland) will be shot in Tel Aviv.

According to Variety, Tyrant is created by the Israeli series Prisoner of War on which Homeland was based. The series from Fox 21 and FX Prods are about a son of a dictator from Middle East. he returns to his home country with his American Family after living 20 year in U.S. When he gets home, he will be drawn into political and familial turmoil.

John Landgraf, the president of FX network said “Tyrant introduces characters and a world that have never been explored in a dramatic television series format. There is a reason a bidding war broke out over this project: it grabs you as all great epics do and simply refuses to let go,”.

The original plan was that Ang Lee will direct the pilot after his Oscar win with Life of Pi, but the idea was left behind eventually.

Dana Walden and Gary Newman, the chairmen-CEOs of the 20th Century Fox Television said that “This project embodies our studio’s guiding principle: get into business with incredible talent and challenge them to swing for the fences,”, They also added  “This is one of the most ambitious series we’ve ever set out to make.”.

FX order for Tyran will be for at least ten episodes and there is a chance there will be more. The production of the show for the summer premiere will begin in March in Tel Aviv.
