FX Cancels Brand X

The Huffington Post reported that FX Networks CEO John Landgraf revealed that Brand X with Russell Brand has been canceled. The weekly talk show had a three-season, 26 episode run, and aired its last episode May 2. The series launched in June 2012 as a weekly half-hour show.

Brand X experienced major changes between its first and second seasons, Huffington Post reports. The show extended to a full hour and began introducing celebrity guests. Political analyst Matthew Stoller appeared on stage in season one but was replaced by Steve Jones at the season two’s February 2013 debut.

However, this is not the end of the relationship between Russell Brand and FX. Entertainment Weekly reveals that FX and Brand are working on a “scripted live-action comedy.” Landgraf explains, “[It’s] loosely based on his life in the way that, say, Curb Your Enthusiasm is loosely about Larry David’s life.” FX has not yet hired a writer for the new show.

Additionally, the Hollywood Reporter informs us that FX’s other late-night effort, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, will switch from weekly to daily format when it moves to new network FXX in September. “We saw more potential and upside in audience response,” Landgraf says, noting the network thought Totally Biased was better prepared to air daily.
