FX and BBC Partner on a New Adaptation of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’

According to Deadline, FX and BBC (who previously partnered on Taboo) are now partnering on new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. The completely new adaptation of Dickens’ novel will be a three-part series and it is written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Taboo) and directed by Nick Murphy (The Awakening). “This production of A Christmas Carol will respectfully present what we believe to be a timely interpretation of a timeless story,” Knight said.

The show is produced by Julian Stevens and executive produced by Knight, Tom Hardy, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Dean Baker, Mona Qureshi, and Kate Crowe, Deadline reports. The presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks Eric Schrier and Nick Grad made the announcement. “We are incredibly proud to join the BBC in this latest creative venture, which builds on our expansive programming partnership to bring the best in television to audiences in the U.S. and U.K.,” said Schrier. “Charles Dickens’ classics, including A Christmas Carol, are timeless tales that have been reimagined generation after generation. We couldn’t imagine better team to undertake this enormous task than Steven Knight, Tom Hardy, Ridley Scott, and their formidable production companies,” Schrier added.

A Christmas Carol‘s cast includes: Guy Pierce who will star as Ebenezer Scrooge, Andy Serkis (Black Panther) who will play the Ghost of Christmas Past; Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders) who will play Lottie; Stephen Graham (This Is England) who will play Jacob Marley; Joe Alwyn (The Favourite) who will play Bob Cratchit; Vinette Robinson (Doctor Who) who will play Mary Cratchit; Rutger Hauer (True Blood) who will play the Ghost of Christmas Future; Lenny Rush (Old Boys) who will play Tim Cratchit; Novak (What We Do in the Shadows) who will play Ali Baba, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to BBC, the three-part special series is set to air for Christmas.
