Full Trailer For “The Offer” Releases, Shows Behind The Scenes Drama Of “The Godfather”

The Godfather, director Francis Ford Coppola’s (Apocalypse Now, The Conversation) magnum opus and considered one of the greatest films of all time by AFI and IMDB, is being shown in a new light in the new Paramount Plus show, The OfferThe Offer follows the never-before-heard stories of the movie’s filming from the point of view of the most seminal people behind its creation.

The first full-length trailer for the show was released just yesterday and teased fans with the newly revealed drama and danger behind the show’s production.

The show will feature key aspects of the production, such as their affiliation and dealing with the mob, political intrigue around the growing Italian-American civil rights movement, and clashes between the production staff and some of the biggest names in Hollywood at the time.

“The only story I knew about the making of The Godfather was that Mario Puzo got into a fight with Frank Sinatra at Chasen’s. So I had 5 minutes of the show written, and now I just needed 9 hours and 55 minutes more to fill it in,” executive producer Michael Tolkin (The Rapture, The New Age) told Deadline.

The aforementioned production team this show focuses on is headed by Miles Teller (Divergent, The Spectacular Now), who plays producer Albert S. Ruddy. Ruddy’s memoirs are the show’s central source material, and Teller told Deadline how he hopes to capture the true essence of the producer during this time of turmoil.

“I think somebody can watch this who knew Al very well and think we’re sharing some DNA, something akin to each other. And that’s great because I know it’s a great responsibility when you’re taking on somebody’s life and telling it, especially a life as full as Al’s was,” Teller said to Deadline.

Teller was a late addition to the show as Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger, The Social Network) originally had the role before multiple allegations of sexual misconduct came out about him. However, joining Teller on the central team are Matthew Goode (The Imitation Game, Watchmen), Juno Temple (Ted Lasso, The Brass Teapot), and Dan Folger (Fanboys, Balls of Fury) playing the critically acclaimed director.

This limited series will premiere on April 28.
