‘Friends’ & ‘Somebody Somewhere’ Actor Mike Hagerty Dies At 67

Actor Mike Hagerty has died at 67 in Los Angeles, California, via Deadline. Bridget Everett (Fun Mom Dinner), his costar on HBO’s “Somebody, Somewhere,” announced the death in an Instagram post. The cause of death is not revealed. 

“With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles,” wrote Everett on Instagram. “A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life. … He will be sorely missed.”

Hagerty was best known for his roles as Mr.Treeger, the building superintendent on Friends, and the manager of a muffler shop on Lucky Louie. On Seinfeld, he landed a memorable role as Rudy, owner of a downtown vintage clothing store, in the episode The Raincoats. 

Hagerty’s other most notable TV works include Martin, Cheers, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Wonder Years, and more. 

He also appeared in several movies, including the 1990 film Dick Tracy where he played a doormanHe also participated in other early 1990s works such as V.I. Warshawski and Wayne’s World — the latter being his first film with Mike Myers. Hagerty would go on to appear in the SNL alum’s So I Married an Axe Murderer and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Hagerty held an alma mater from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His personal life is relatively private. He is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn; his sister, Mary Ann Hagerty; her wife, Kathleen O’Rourke; and their daughter Meg. 

HBO released a statement: “We are very saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Mike Hagerty. A member of the HBO family for many years, his most recent role as Bridget Everett’s father in Somebody Somewhere showed his special talent for bringing heart to a performance. Mike was a joy to work with and brought warmth and kindness to all who knew him. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

His latest work is the HBO TV show Somebody Somewhere where he played Ed Miller. The comedy-drama concluded on February 27 and has been renewed for another season.
