Freshman Fall Comedy ‘Ghosts’ Gets Full-Season Order at CBS

Quirky fall hit comedy, Ghosts, has received a full-season order at CBS, according to Deadline. The American remake of the British original stars Rose McIver (iZombie, A Christmas Prince) and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Free Guy, Godmothered) as a young couple who are bequeathed a beautiful home with some uninvited guests.

CBS found instant success with Ghosts. Since premiering on October 7, it has become the #1 most-watched comedy of the season, via Deadline. It’s also the first new fall comedy to receive a full order.

“We’re thrilled this spirited new comedy has struck a chord with viewers and critics alike and is off to a great start,” Thom Sherman, Senior Executive Vice President, Programming, CBS Entertainment told Deadline. “We’ve loved Ghosts since day one, and thank the outstanding executive producers, cast and writers for skillfully bringing to life the boldest, most unique comedy you’ll find anywhere on television this season.”

According to Deadline, the show follows Samantha (McIver) and Jay (Ambudkar,) a new couple struggling to make ends meet. They are ecstactic when they inherit a large country home, with plans to morph the abode into a bed and breakfast. But their good fortune is short-lived when they discover, in addition to needing major repairs, the home is infested with ghosts of previous residents that still haunt the halls. Samantha is able to see the colorful cast of spirits following an awkward head injury.

Joining McIver and Ambudkar are co-stars Sheila Carrasco (Me and My Grandma, Good Luck With Everything), Asher Grodman (The Train, Buzzkill), Brandon Scott Jones (Isn’t It Romantic, Don’t Think Twice), Devan Chandler Long (Doom Patrol, Baker’s Man), Richie Moriarty (Going in Style, How to Be Single), Danielle Pinnock (Young Sheldon, ThunderCats Roar), Rebecca Wisocky (Funny Money, Devious Maids), and Roman Zaragoza (Studio City), via Deadline. The series comes from Joe Port (New Girl, Regular Joe) and Joe Wiseman (Me, Myself, and I, The Crazy Ones) who executive produce with Lionsgate TV, BBC Studios and CBS Studios.

According to Deadline, CBS attributes the series’ success to being able to appeal to an array of viewers. CBS Entertainment President Kelly Khal described the niche comedy as a “unicorn,” and having “lot of runway in front of it.”

In addition to Port and Wiseman, executive producers of the series include BBC’s Angie Stephenson and Monumental Television’s Debra Hayward, according to Deadline. They are joined by Alison Owen, Alison Carpenter, Martha Howe-Douglas, Mathew Baynton, Laurence Rickard, Ben Willbond, Simon Farnaby, and Jim Howick.

There is no definite episode count for the first season. New episodes of Ghosts air every Thursday at 9 p.m. on CBS.
