Freeform Renews ‘Everything’s Gonna Be Okay’ and ‘Motherland: Fort Salem’ For Season 2

Freeform grounds their plans for this year and the beginning of 2021 with bringing back Everything’s Gonna Be Okay and Motherland: Fort Salem second seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Other originals’ ensuing seasons the platform holds are pushed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic such as Good Trouble, grown-ish, and Cruel Summer.

Both shows have been a hit thus far for the network. The television comedy Everything’s Gonna Be Okay surrounds Nicholas (Josh Thomas) raising his two sisters half-sisters after their father becomes terminally ill. The stars other than Thomas include Mauve Press (Evil Lives Here) as Genevieve, Adam Faison (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) as Alex, and Kayla Cromer (Blood Orange) as Matilda. Thomas (Please Like Me) produced and created the show with Avalon also on production.

“This is great news, not just because it means I have a group of writers that have to hang out on my screen with me all day and I don’t have to be alone anymore getting weird,” Thomas told The Hollywood Reporter “because I love this show and I love these characters and I love our cast and crew, and making another season is just going to be so nice.”

Motherland: Fort Salem surrounds an alternate reality with witches being trained for the military. The show stars Taylor Hickson (Aftermath) as Raelle Collar, Amalia Holm (The Girl in the Spider’s Web) as Scylla Ramshorn, Demetria McKinney (Saints & Sinners) as Anacostia Quartermain, Jessica Sutton (Ice) as Tally Craven, and Ashley Nicole Williams (Shepard) as Abilgail Bellweather. The show was executive produced by Will Ferrell (Blades of Glory) and Adam McKay (The Other Guys), created by Eliot Laurence.

“Freeform has been such a fabulous home for us through the development process, production, post and marketing,” Laurence said according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m also blown away by the love we’ve gotten from our fans, whose excitement and passion played a massive part in this renewal. Thank you, witches!”

Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment and former head of Freeform originals, developed both of the shows. It is unknown still who will take over Burke’s former position.
