Francia Raisa (Grown-ish), Tien Tran (Space Force), Tom Ainsley (The Royals), and Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi) have been cast in How I Met Your Father, the upcoming Hulu original spin-off series to the CBS Sitcom, How I Met Your Mother. They will be joining the star of the series, Hilary Duff (Younger), as reported by Deadline.
How I Met Your Father will star Duff as Sophie, as she tells her son the story of how she met his father. It deals with modern love in the age of online dating, and how complicated it can be to navigate relationships through hundreds of dating apps where the options seem never-ending. It also deals with Sophie and her close group of friends as they try and figure out what they want out of life as they get older. Chris Lowell (Glow) has already been cast as co-star of the series, Jesse, one of Sophie’s best friends. Jesse is a cynical musician who works as an Uber driver in order to make ends meet.
Raisa has been cast as Sophie’s best friend, Valentina. According to Deadline, Valentina is, “an aspiring stylist and Sophie’s great friend. She’s impulsive and adventurous and Sophie relies on Valentina’s ability to cheer her up when she gets down. Valentina has just come back from London Fashion Week with the gorgeous, British Charlie.”
Charlie will be played by Ainsley, a model who fell in love with Valentina while modeling at London Fashion Week, who then follows her back to New York. In the official character description picked up by Deadline, Charlie is characterized as, “The son of conservative aristocrats, Charlie’s a great guy but he’s been living in a rich person’s bubble his whole life.”
Tran has ben cast as Ellen, who, according to Deadline, is, “Jesse’s adopted sister, who just moved to New York from a small farming town after separating from her wife. Ellen’s more comfortable on an organic lettuce field than in a Brooklyn dive bar.”
Last but not least is Sharma, who’s been cast as Sid, Jesse’s good friend and roommate. He’s a new bar owner and is a sunny contrast to Jesse’s doom and gloom.
How I Met Your Father is created by Isaac Aptaker (This is Us, Love, Victor) and Elizabeth Berger (This is Us, Love, Victor). Duff co-produces alongside How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays (Oliver Beene) and Craig Thomas (Oliver Beene), in addition to Adam Londy (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse).
