Fox’s ‘Prodigal Son’ Adds Catherine Zeta-Jones To Season Two Main Cast

The upcoming second season of the Fox original series, Prodigal Son, will feature the addition of Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago, Traffic) to its cast in a lead role, according to Deadline. The thriller drama premiered on the network in fall 2019 and is preparing for its second season premiere on January 12, 2021, at 9 PM EST. Created by Sam Sklaver (The Love Guru) and Chris Fedak (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), the first season ran for twenty episodes. The series is executive produced by the likes of Adam Kane (The Boondock Saints), Greg Berlanti (You), Lee Toland Krieger (The Vicious Kind), Sarah Schechter (The Flash, The Flight Attendant), Sklaver, and Fedak. 

Prodigal Son revolves around the FBI agent and NYPD consultant Malcolm Bright who is the son of an infamous serial killer. In the current day, Bright is now affronted by a copycat killer of his father, and the series centers on him attempting to discover and solve the new puzzle along with handling his personal connection to the case at hand. Bright is portrayed by Tom Payne (The Walking Dead) and his father, former surgeon Dr. Martin Whitly, is portrayed by Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon, Masters of Sex). 

Zeta-Jones, the Academy Award and Tony Award-winning actress, will join the series as Dr. Vivian Capshaw, who will be in charge of Sheen’s character shifts in the prison’s infirmary. Currently, Zeta-Jones is set to appear in the latter half of the second season.  

Additional cast includes the likes of Halston Sage (Paper Towns), Lou Diamond Phillips (Longmire), Frank Harts (Billions, The Leftovers), Aurora Perrineau (When They See Us), Bellamy Young (Scandal), and Keiko Agena (Gilmore Girls).
