Fox Renews Mayim Bialik-Led Comedy ‘Call Me Kat’ for a Second Season

Call Me Kat is getting a second season on Fox, according to Variety. Series lead and Emmy Award-winner Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory) is slated to return alongside original cast members Swoosie Kurtz (Mike & Molly), Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story), Leslie Jordan (Will & Grace), Kyla Pratt (Let’s Stay Together) and Julian Gant (Good Girls).

“We are excited to renew Call Me Kat and have Mayim, Cheyenne, Swoosie, Leslie, Kyla and Julian return for their second season. Together, they share a winning chemistry that we, and viewers, adore,” said Michael Thorn, president of entertainment, Fox Entertainment, in a statement via Variety. “On behalf of everyone here at FOX, congratulations to this incredible cast and our terrific partners at Warner Bros. on delivering this season’s #1 new comedy.”

Call Me Kat follows 39-year-old Kat (Bialik), who opens a cat café with the funds her parents originally saved for her wedding, according to Variety. Perpetually single and proud of it, Kat pursues her own course to happiness, despite her overbearing mother’s (Kurtz) expectations of her.

Variety reports that the series is the number one new comedy, tied with NBC’s Young Rock. The show averages 5.7 million multiplatform viewers in Nielsen’s Live +Same Day ratings.

The show is inspired by the BBC series Miranda, written and created by comedian Miranda Hart (Spy), which ran from 2009-2015 and was nominated for several BAFTA awards.

Call Me Kat is executive produced by Bialik, Jim Parsons (Hollywood), Todd Spiewak (Young Sheldon), Angie Stephenson (The Night Of) and Miranda Hart, according to Variety.
