‘Foundation’ Trailer: Apple TV+ Unveils First Full Look at Epic Science Fiction Series

Apple TV+ has unveiled the first full look at their upcoming science fiction series Foundation. A show of epic proportions, the trailer stretches across vast mountains, valleys and armies as it gears up for its September 24 debut on the streamer, via Entertainment Weekly

Adapted from the book series under the same name written by Isaac Asimov (The Stars, Like Dust), the original trilogy published from 1951-1953 contained Foundation, Foundation and Empire, and Second Foundation. Asimov then went on to publish two additional sequels and two prequels starting in the 1980s. The upcoming Apple TV series promises to fully emerge itself in the world Asimov created, with it drawing comparisons to other epic fantasy series such as HBO’s Game of Thrones. Foundation is also notably one of the influences that led George Lucas (American Graffiti) to create Star Wars.

The cast contains a wide array of well known actors, starring Jared Harris (Mad Med, Chernobyl) as Hari Seldon, Lee Pace (Halt and Catch Fire) as Brother Day, Lou Llobell (Voyagers) as Gaal Dornick, Leah Harvey (Search and Destroy) as Salvor Hardin, Laura Birn (Purge) as Demerzel, Terrance Man (Sense8) as Brother Dusk, and Cassian Bilton (Shoal) as Brother Dawn.

A massive undertaking, David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) serves as the series showrunner. Goyer is no stranger to taking on beloved material and adapting it for the screen, as he wrote the screenplays for Christopher Nolan’s (Inception) entire Dark Night trilogy, as well as writing the screenplays for Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Goyer discussed the great responsibility of doing Asimov’s series justice, and the challenges of shooting on location: “I was determined that we really went to these places…It’s a show I wanted to be very textural. We went to the Canary Islands, we went to Berlin, we went to Malta, and we went to Iceland. The proof is in the pudding. The shoot was incredibly arduous. It’s the hardest shoot that I’ve ever been involved in, but I really believe as much as possible in doing things for real and having as many real elements as possible. So when you see these sumptuous locales in episode 1 and episode 3, we weren’t faking it.”
