First X-Files Miniseries Set Photos Released

After a thirteen year hiatus, the long-awaited miniseries revival of hit science fiction drama, The X-Files, is officially underway. Earlier this week, production began on the spectacular six-episode return of dream-team paranormal investigators, Agents Mulder and Scully, slated to return to Fox on January 24, 2016. On Wednesday, Fox’s official social media accounts lit up following the reveal of the first official set photo of the pair.

The X-Files‘ official twitter account, @thexfilesfox, tweeted Wednesday morning, “EXCLUSIVE: Your first look at Mulder and Scully!” accompanied by the heavily anticipated photo of the duo themselves, settling into their old roles just a week after filming resumed.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, reprising their landmark roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively, are relaxing side-by-side in the released photo, looking a little more weathered and just a little older than the last time they graced the screen together over a decade ago. With the exception of a 2008 X-Files movie, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, 2016’s miniseries revival is the first and only official reunion of the cult hit since its impressive nine-year run from 1993 to 2002.

The first official photo doesn’t give much of a hint of what fans of the show can expect come January – it’s only a simple shot of the pair in casual clothes, sitting in what looks to be the backseat of a car –  but die-hards are already speculating on what the miniseries has in store for Mulder in Scully, who were last seen in the series finale fleeing government persecution after breaking into a Top Secret facility.

The first real press release leaves much to the imagination, but The X-Files revival has only just begun, and it already promises to deliver. With Duchovny and Anderson reprising the legendary roles that built their careers, as well as original X-Files creator Chris Carter joining the project as director, not much can go wrong – unless, of course, aliens attack before the January premiere. But that’s what Mulder and Scully are here for, anyway.
