ABC Family Picks Up New Drama ‘Stay’

ABC Family is expanding its original programming with the drama Stay.

ABC Family has picked up the pilot of Stay, making it the third pilot the network ordered in the last two months as they look to doubling original programming within the next four years. Stay is described as a thriller and follows a recently widowed detective and his two daughters who become stranded in a strange hotel and must unravel its mysteries in order to escape, according to the press release.

Stay is an emotionally powerful story about a fractured family that comes back together under the most unexpected of circumstances,” said Karey Burke, ABC Family’s Executive Vice President of Programming and Development in the press release. “Stay is a haunting and surprising ride that we are excited to bring to life.”

Stay is written by Spenser Cohen, who created the unscripted Macklemore’s Big Surprise. The one-hour project will be executive produced by Cohen along with Jon Turteltaub and Anna Halberg (Macklemore’s Big Surprise). Turteltaub (National Treasure) will also direct the pilot.

Stay joins two previous pilot orders from ABC Family: Beyond and Gorgeous Morons. The supernatural, one-hour drama Beyond, is about a young man who wakes up from a 12-year coma with supernatural abilities that puts him in the middle of a conspiracy. It was created, written, and executive produced by Adam Nussdorf (Once Upon A Time In Wonderland), according to Deadline

The multi-camera comedy Gorgeous Morons is about handsome but simple brothers whose lives are changed by their brainy new roommate. It comes from writer-producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, both from The Office, as well as former The Office head writer Danny Chun, according to Deadline
