‘Feed the Beast’ Becomes AMC’s Latest One-And-Done

After one season, it has been announced that AMC is canceling the David Schwimmer drama Feed the Beast.

Last year, Feed the Beast was picked up straight to series. It centered around two close friends, Tommy (David Schwimmer) and Dion (Jim Sturgess), who open up a restaurant and find themselves in trouble. The series premiere received poor reviews and ratings, drawing 976,000 same-day viewers and a 0.3 rating among adults 18-49. After the premiere, the show was moved to Tuesdays, which was to little avail in improving its poor ratings. The season finale received a 0.1 rating from adults under 50, THR reported.

“We have great respect and admiration for the entire team associated with Feed the Beast, starting with [showrunner] Clyde Phillips, [stars] David Schwimmer, Jim Sturgess and our studio partner, Lionsgate,” AMC said in a statement. “We are thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with them and appreciative of their talents, dedication and care. Unfortunately, the show simply didn’t achieve the results needed to move forward with a second season.”

Feed the Beast, a product of Lionsgate TV, is based on the Danish show Bankerot. Created by Kim Fupz Aakeson and produced by DR Broadcasting, the show had Phillips executive producing along with the Bankerot producers Henrik Ruben Genz and Malene Blenkov, and Piv Bernth of The Killing.

AMC has previously adapted other Danish programs. Forbrydelsen became The Killing, running for three seasons on the network and eventually being closed out at Netflix.

Though this one-and-done series will join the likes of AMC’s Rubicon and Low Winter Sun, AMC has had success with many of its other ventures – The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Halt and Catch Fire, Better Call Saul, Into the Badlands, Humans and Preacher.
