Father/Son Comedy Pilot Starring Damon Wayans And Damon Wayans Jr. Ordered By CBS

CBS has picked up its first comedy of the 2023-2024 season with one of TV’s most coveted comedy duos attached. Deadline reports father and son Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. are set to star in yet-titled multi-camera sitcom for the network. The order comes amidst a revival of the multi-cam after the success of NBC’s Night Court revival and Netflix’s That 90s Show.

First reporting on the series’ development four months ago, Deadline confirms the series will center on the elder Wayans as a divorced talk radio legend whose ego is checked when the station hires a new female co-host. Not only will his domain be challenged on the job, but it’s challenged at home as he’s still partially raising his dreamer son (Wayans Jr.) who is pursuing a career with his wife and child by his side.

The series is co-written by Wayans and Kevin Hench (Last Man Standing, The Santa Clauses) who will also executive produce, according to Deadline. Both Wayanses are executive producers through Wayans Jr.’s Two Shades Entertainment, which is housed within CBS Studios.

According to Deadline, father and son last shared screen time together in Wayans Jr.’s 2018 multi-cam sitcom, Happy Together, which ran for one season on CBS. Wayans Jr. starred as Jake, a happily married man whose life turned upside down when his celebrity law firm client became an unexpected house guest. The series also starred Amber Stevens West (The Carmicahel Show, Run the World) and Felix Mallard (Ginny & Georgia, All the Bright Places). Wayans guest-starred as Jake’s father, Mike, in the episode titled “Like Father, Like Son.”

The duo is no stranger to TV comedy as both hail from the iconic Wayans family, who have been entertaining audiences since the 1980s. Damon Wayans had a short-lived career on Saturday Night Live before co-creating Fox’s smash sketch comedy series, In Living Color, with older brother Keenan Ivory Wayans (Hollywood Shuffle, I’m Gonna Get You Sucka). He has since starred in the ABC family comedy, My Wife and Kids, and most recently had a stint on Fox’s adaptation of the buddy-cop flick, Lethal WeaponHis film credits include The Last Boy Scout, Mo’ Money, and Major Payne.

and Fox’s New Girl. He’s also appeared in films such as Let’s Be Cops, Dance Flick, and Love, Guaranteed.
