Fans Demand a Mockingbird Spinoff After ‘Hawkeye’ Finale Reveal

The season finale of Hawkeye dropped Wednesday, and the last few minutes left fans with a surprise reveal, hinting at a popular comics character. According to Comicbook.com, fans are now demanding a spin-off focused on Laura Barton (played by Linda Cardellini), who is speculated to be the character, Mockingbird.

In the finale, titled “So This is Christmas?”, Clint (Jeremy Renner) returns home in time for Christmas. When talking to Laura, it is revealed that he recovered the watch that was being sold at the auction, and it belonged to Laura. When Laura takes the watch, she flips it over and reveals a S.H.I.E.L.D. logo with the number 19 engraved on it.

In the comics, Agent 19 refers to Bobbi Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird. Mockingbird was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and close ally to Hawkeye, and at one point, they were married.

Fans are now hoping that Marvel Studios will explore this new twist in a potential spin-off or season two of Hawkeye.

Mockingbird is not a foreign character to the MCU. Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) portrayed Bobbi Morse in the second and third seasons of the ABC series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. With this reveal, it does leave a lot of questions.

One possibility is that Laura could have passed down the mantle of Mockingbird to Morse after retiring. Another would be that Marvel Studios is retconning what was established in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as most fans speculate that the series may be dropped from the canon. Whatever the possibility is, the reveal will likely be explored in the future.

All six episodes of Hawkeye can be streamed on Disney+.
