Evocateur: A documentary on Morton Downey Jr.

When it comes to 80s talk shows, The Morton Downey Jr. Show never failed to bring in the drama. Host Morton Downey Jr., also known as “Mort the Mouth”, played today’s Dr. Phil or Maury. The show featured fighting, screaming matches, and overly excited audiences.

As Vulture explains, Seth Kramer, Daniel A. Miller and Jeremy Newberger are directing a documentary titled “Evocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie”, which depicts Downey’s life of struggle and experimentation. The documentary features interviews, period footage and entertaining animation while exploring his career as a musician and then a TV talk show host before losing his battle to lung cancer in 2001.

The New York Daily News reports that the hour and a half film was given three stars. The documentary entered theaters yesterday.
