‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ Coming to TV

Television is in the midst of a reboot craze, as it is reviving several classic TV shows, and now, Oscar-winning films.

The heart-wrenching, uber-cerebral film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is receiving the television treatment. The project is still in early stages, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 2004 film, produced by Focus Features, centered around an estranged couple (played by Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet) who erase each other from their memories. The screenplay was penned by Charlie Kaufman, Michel Gondry and Pierre Bismuth, with the trio taking home an Academy Award for best original screenplay and having the film premiere to rave reviews. The film, which can easily be called one of the most intellectual love stories of all time, is both mind-bending and saddening.

Zev Borow (Forever, Chuck) is near a deal to pen the drama’s script. Anonymous Content will produce the project via Universal Cable Productions alongside executive producer Richard Brown (True Detective)

Anonymous Content has had many a success with other ventures such as True Detective and Mr. Robot. The production and management company’s upcoming projects include Netflix series The OA, Selena Gomez’s 13 Reasons Why, and TNT’s The Alienist.

THR also notes that “Reboots continue to remain in high demand as broadcast, cable and streaming outlets look for proven IP in a bid to cut through a cluttered scripted landscape that is quickly approaching 500 original series. Key to the remakes is having the original producers involved in some capacity — which Sunshine has with Anonymous Content — as more studios look to monetize their existing film libraries.”

Indeed, it was a good move by Anonymous and Universal to reboot one of the most impressive films of the 2000s.

Cue the nostalgia and emotions, here’s a clip from Eternal Sunshine:
