Emmy Nominated Actor John Mahoney from ‘Frasier’ Passes Away

John Mahoney, famously known for his role as Martin Crane on Frasier, has passed away. He was 77 years old and residing in Chicago, lastly under hospice care according to his manager Paul Martino.

Mr. Mahoney played the patient and stubborn father to Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pearce on the Emmy winning show from 1993 to 2004. More recently he played Betty White’s man-friend on Hot in Cleveland from 2011-2014.

Originally born in Blackpool, England, Mahoney came to the U.S. when he was 19. With an acting career spanning 35 years, he originally came to the states to teach English at Western Illinois University. His acting bug originally led him to the stage which he also returned to after Frasier with productions of Prelude to a Kiss and The Birthday Party.

His acting career also included over 70 movies and television shows including voice work in Antz and The Iron Giant.

Mr. Mahoney was never married and had no children.
