Is Netflix becoming the home of grown-up Disney Channel stars? For Emily Osment (Young & Hungry) and Gregg Sulkin (Marvel’s Runaways), this surely seems to be the case, as according to Deadline, the two are preparing to star in an upcoming untitled comedy series for the streamer.
Via Deadline, Netflix has ordered a 10-episode first season for the comedy series, which is set to be filmed in a multi-camera format. The series will follow Osment as a stuck-up Ivy league graduate named Chelsea who’s straight-A-transcript doesn’t translate to real-world street smarts. Therefore, she ends up moving in with her sister Claire and her roommates in Los Angeles. Sulkin is set to play Grant, a sweet and “often shirtless” personal trainer who shares a romantic history with Claire.
The untitled series is the creation of Jack Dolgen (producer, Diary of a Future President), Doug Mand (writer, How I Met Your Mother) and Kourtney Kang (producer, Fresh Off the Boat). According to Deadline, the untitled comedy will be a reunion for the three creators, who all worked together on How I Met Your Mother. Pamela Fryman (Call Your Mother) is attached to direct the series. Dolgen, Mand, Kang, and Fryman will all serve as executive producers for the series.
As previously mentioned, Osment and Sulkin came to fame as stars of hit Disney Channel sitcoms in the mid-to-late 2000’s. Osment starred as Hannah’s quirky best friend Lilly on Hannah Montana. Sulkin starred in Wizards of Waverly Place as Alex’s charming werewolf boyfriend Mason.
Osment and Sulkin aren’t the first former Disney Channel stars to work with Netflix. Osmet’s former co-star Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) starred in the “Rachel, Jack and Ashley, Too” episode of Black Mirror‘s fifth season. Additionally, Sulkin’s former co-star and on-screen love interest Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place) is an executive producer for Netflix’s hit original drama 13 Reasons Why.
