The Hollywood Reporter reported today that Netflix’s Emily in Paris will end with the upcoming season six, joining the streaming platform’s previously announced series ending in a similar fashion – The Night Agent and The Lincoln Lawyer. The series was picked up for its sixth season in January, and filming for this new (and final) season is currently underway in Greece.
From a statement on the series concluding from creator Darren Star (Sex and the City, Younger), via The Hollywood Reporter:
“Making Emily in Paris with this extraordinary cast and crew has been the trip of a lifetime. As we embark on the final season, I am so grateful to Netflix, Paramount, and most importantly, the fans who have taken this incredible journey with us. We can’t wait to share this last chapter with you. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives, inspiring your dreams of travel and your love of Paris. We will always have Emily in Paris.”
The news was also announced on Netflix’s YouTube channel by series star Lily Collins (Rules Don’t Apply, To the Bone), who has played the title role of Emily Cooper throughout the story.
Emily in Paris follows 29-year-old American and fresh master’s graduate Emily Cooper (Collins) moving to Paris for a new job opportunity, as she learns to juggle the American-Parisian culture clash and newfound relationships (both platonic and romantic) while building the backbone of her marketing career. The season finale of the fifth season saw Emily in Rome, opening a new office branch of her company’s agency in Italy while exploring new romantic horizons. In the end, she finds herself choosing to return to Paris, seeking something closer to the home she’d made for herself. Previously, via The Hollywood Reporter, creator Star spoke on the finale of season five and highlighted what it means for Emily – how it cemented that her heart was truly set on living in Paris, that she wanted to be and live in Paris and that it wasn’t just something temporary.
However, this won’t be the last of Star’s work for TV. Through his own company, Darren Star Productions, and under his overall deal with Universal Television, he will be developing and producing new series projects for streaming and broadcast exclusively with Universal Television. He already has upcoming projects in the works, as previously reported by mxdwn.
Emily in Paris is produced by Paramount Television Studios with Jax Media and Darren Star Productions. Previous seasons of the series are available for streaming on Netflix.
