Ellen Pompeo Scrubs Into A New Kind Of Mystery With Hulu’s ‘Not A Sound’ Drama

Ellen Pompeo (Grey’s Anatomy, Good American Family) could be taking on another major television role at Hulu. According to Variety,  Pompeo is attached to star in Not a Sound, a new drama series currently in development at the streamer.

The project comes from David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, The Practice), the creator behind Big Little Lies and Boston Legal, and is based on Heather Gudenkauf’s novel of the same name. Not a Sound centers on Amelia Winn, a disgraced emergency room nurse whose life changes after she loses her hearing in a devastating hit-and-run accident. Amelia later discovers the murdered body of a former colleague with the help of her service dog.

The discovery pulls Amelia into a dangerous mystery that could also reveal the truth behind the accident that changed her life. Pompeo is attached to play the lead role and will also executive produce the project.

Variety notes that the series is being written by Big Sky duo Matthew Tinker (Big Sky, Big Little Lies) and Annakate Chappell (Big Sky, The Lincoln Lawyer). Tinker also serves as president of David E. Kelley Productions.

Azazel Jacobs (His Three Daughters, French Exit) is attached to direct. Pompeo and Laura Holstein (Good American Family, Grey’s Anatomy) are also executive producers through Calamity Jane, while 20th Television serves as the studio.

The project continues Pompeo’s relationship with 20th Television, where she currently has an overall deal. It also adds to her growing slate of projects with Disney.

Her Hulu true crime anthology Good American Family was recently renewed for a second season. Pompeo remains closely connected to Grey’s Anatomy, where she has played Meredith Grey since 2005.

Her work within the franchise has also expanded behind the camera. She executive produced the spinoff Station 19 and is an executive producer on another upcoming Grey’s Anatomy offshoot.

Not a Sound remains in development at Hulu, so a series order or release date has not been announced yet.
