Elizabeth Banks Develops Podcast ‘Over My Dead Body’ For WarnerMedia’s Upcoming Streaming Service

Actress Elizabeth Banks recently picked up Wondery’s podcast, Over My Dead Body, for a series adaptation order, which will be put into development through WarnerMedia via their upcoming streaming label. Banks is attached to executive produce and direct the series through her Brownstone Productions company.

Under Brownstone, Max Handelman will also executive produce along with Dannah Shinder as co-executive producer. Hernan Lopez, Wondery’s founder and CEO, executive produces the series with CCO Marshall Lewy. Warner Bros. Television will official take on producing duties.

Wondery podcast is currently well-known for Bravo’s Dirty John, which previously was adapted for television with Connie Britton and Eric Bana as the lead stars. The series’ second season will feature an all new cast and story, after being picked up by the USA Network.

“’Over My Dead Body’ is a story of family conflict worthy of Shakespeare by way of Fargo,’” mentioned Lopez. “We’re beyond excited to partner with WarnerMedia and Elizabeth Banks on the TV adaptation.” WarnerMedia has declined to comment on the news.

The upcoming series will focus on Dan and Wendi, two attorneys who are married to each other and seem to have it all. But when the seemingly perfect couple grow apart, a terrible breakup ensues following an even worse divorce and murder case.

The crime drama currently stands as one of the many projects Banks has in the works —the actress is set to appear in FX’s limited series Mrs. America alongside Cate Blanchett, as well as the upcoming Charlie’s Angels film adaptation in which she wrote, directed, and executive produced, and starred as Bosley.

WarnerMedia’s streaming service is set to launch its beta version later this year, before revealing to the public the original programming content on the service in 2020. Kevin Reilly, CCO of Direct to Consumer for WarnerMedia, previously said that the service “will mine in-house properties to generate new content for the service but that not all originals would be based on WarnerMedia IP.”

Director Paul Feig and Anna Kendrick also have an upcoming project in the works for WarnerMedia’s streaming service — a romantic comedy in the form of an anthology series; a popular and trendy format. An animated Gremlins television series is also production for the streaming network.
