A DuckTales reboot has been in the works for Disney since 2015, when the announcement for the return of ’80s and ’90s cartoon sensation was delivered. There will be more tales of derring-do, more good and bad luck tales, more mysteries and adventures in Duckburg. Now summer 2017 is fast approaching, and with it the airing of a new, updated DuckTales. Though we haven’t seen the first DuckTales season, Variety reports that on Thursday the show was already renewed for a second season. Another reboot to look out for will be Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2018. This 2D animated revival comes after the cancellation of the first TMNT reboot which will end after season 5.
The revival of DuckTales will feature Doctor Who actor David Tennant voicing Scrooge McDuck. His great-nephews will be played by Danny Pudi as Huey, Ben Schwartz as Dewey, and Bobby Moynihan as Loui. Tony Anselmo will be returning as the undeniable Donald Duck and Kate Micucci will play Webby Vanderquack, a young girl who has earned the fondness of “uncle” Scrooge McDuck. The whole team has some big shoes to fill following in the footsteps of Alan Young (the original Scrooge McDuck) and Russi Taylor who played all three brothers as well as Webby in the first round of DuckTales.
In addition to the news about a second season, DuckTales also got a new trailer on Thursday that promises more adventures, more discoveries, and more of everyone’s favorite billionaire; Scrooge McDuck. Our favorite great-uncle will have to prove to his youthful nephews that yes, he is still a “big deal.” But it is still far from certain whether the new DuckTales can please devoted fans of the ’80s and ’90s with an entirely new cast and new animation style. In only 24 hours the new trailer released by Disney has already received both high levels of excitement and criticism.
Also featured in the trailer is the classic theme song, so we can all go back to singing “DuckTales, woo-oo” with pride.
