‘Dr. Who’ Spinoff ‘Class’ Unveils First Trailer at New York Comic Con

After a long wait we finally have our first look at Class, the BBC’s newest Dr. Who spinoff series.

At the 2016 New York Comic Con, the BBC released the first official trailer for Class, and for those not in attendance at NYCC, the trailer was later uploaded online. Class is the latest spinoff project of Dr. Who and will follow a class of teenagers who go to school at Coal Hill. Fans of Dr. Who will remember that Coal Hill is the school where Clara Oswalt taught, and a significant chunk of season 8 took place. Season 8 wasn’t the first time the Doctor had visited Coal Hill, however. In fact, the very first episode of Dr. Who which aired back in 1963 took place at Coal Hill School.

Check out the trailer below.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for this series to premiere now.

Class stars newcomers Greg Austin, Sophie Hopkins, Fady Elsayed and Vivian Oparah. The official description for the series says Class will follow students Charlie (Austin) April (Hopkins), Ram (Elsayed) and Vivian (Oparah) as they try to lead their normal teenage lives. But as you can see from the trailer, dark forces are at work that these young adults must face.

Even though the Doctor appears in the trailer, it’s unclear how much we should expect to see him stopping by Coal Hill.

When Class was first announced in January, the BBC claimed the series would air stateside in 2016. However, new reports indicate that the series won’t air on BBC America until 2017.

Class is not the first spinoff from the internationally loved sci-fi series. The Sarah Jane Adventures, which ran from 2007 to 2011, starred former Doctor Who companion Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane. The second spinoff,Torchwood, starred John Barrowman as the flirtatious Captain Jack Harkness and ran from 2006 to 2011.
