BBC’s Doctor Who has an upcoming holiday special set to air on New Year’s Day. According to Deadline, the long-running science-fiction drama has released the new trailer for the standalone special episode, entitled “Revolution of the Daleks.” The show features an annual holiday special even in a year where television and film production has been paused numerous times for the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. The holiday special will follow the Thirteenth Doctor for the upcoming special where Jodie Whittaker (Attack the Block, Broadchurch) will reprise her role.
Doctor Who is a long-running science-fiction drama series for BBC which premiered back in 1963 on the British network. The series centers around the titular “doctor” who takes the form of a human, despite being an extraterrestrial entity that is capable of bending time and exploring alternate universes. The ability for the protagonist to shift appearances has allowed for the series to continue on over the years with different actors portraying the role.
The upcoming holiday special will feature Whittaker as the Thirteenth incarnation of the Doctor, John Barrowman (Arrow, Torchwood) as Captain Jack Harkness, Dame Harriet Walter (Succession), Chris Noth (Sex and the City, The Good Wife), in addition to Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits). Additional cast for the special episode will include Bradley Walsh (Coronation Street) as Graham, Mandip Gill (Hollyoaks) as Yaz, and Tosin Cole (EastEnders: E20) as Ryan. Barrowman’s appearance will be the second instance of the actor reprising his role as Captain Harkness since a previous Doctor Who episode in 2010.
Doctor Who’s 2020 holiday special, “Revolution of the Daleks,” will premiere on BBC on January 1 at 8 PM EST. Check out the minute-long teaser trailer below:
