Doctor Who fans, mark your calendars: the reveal of the 12th Doctor is imminent.
The announcement will be made Sunday, August 4 at 2 PM EST, the BBC disclosed earlier this week. The casting will be revealed as part of a live program titled Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor on BBC One and BBC America. Executive producer Steven Moffat and current Doctor Matt Smith will be present, as well as past Doctor Who stars.
“The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who’s taking over the TARDIS,” Moffat said in a statement. “For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve.”
The controller of BBC One, Charlotte Moore, adds, “This special live show is the perfect way to reveal the identity of the next Doctor and share it with the nation. The Doctor is a truly iconic role and I’m more than excited about the booking.”
Scottish actor Peter Capaldi is currently favored for the role, with bookies placing his odds at 5/6. Of course, nothing will be confirmed until Sunday: as Ben Stephenson, the Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning, states, “It’s the biggest secret in showbiz.”
