Disney+’s ‘WandaVision’ To Include Episode Modeled After ‘The Office’

The upcoming Marvel and Disney+ streaming series WandaVision is preparing to begin the weekly release of its first season in January. The upcoming superhero series has referenced sitcom influence on the unorthodox presentation with trailers drawing themes and images from classic comedies such as The Brady Bunch and I Love Lucy. According to Screen Rant, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, referenced that the new Marvel series will draw from classic sitcoms, including an episode incorporating the mockumentary style of NBC’s successful comedy series, The Office.

WandaVision will center on two characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wanda or Scarlet Witch and Vision. The series will display the two existing together in a suburban setting after the conclusion of the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame while their world continuously shifts around them, signifying the mysterious state they will live in. The series is expected to release its first episode on January 15, 2021 and was created by Jac Schaeffer (TIMER, Black Widow).

The series will consist of six episodes and will be under the directorial vision of Matt Shakman (Game of Thrones, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia). The series cast will include Elizabeth Olsen (Wind River) and Paul Bettany (A Knight’s Tale, Iron Man) reprising their respective roles of Wanda and Vision. Additional cast members include the likes of Kat Dennings (Thor, 2 Broke Girls), Kathryn Hahn (Step Brothers), Randall Park (The Interview), Teyonah Parris (Mad Men), and Jolene Purdy ().

Currently, there are no public details how the mockumentary style of deadpan humor and workplace comedy of The Office will play into the new Marvel series. Wanda and Vision previously worked together as a team prior to the kindling of their romantic relationship, but it is unknown whether the series will utilize this past storyline between the characters. Yet, the inclusion of the NBC show’s influence on the Disney+ series has only heightened the anticipation from comic-book and Marvel fans for the long-awaited taste of two MCU characters.
