Disney+’s Monsters, Inc. spinoff series, Monsters at Work, has set its premiere date for July 7, according to the official Disney+ press release. The Disney-owned streaming platform also released the official trailer for the animated series.
The ten-episode series takes place soon after the original film from 2001 ended. According to the official logline, it follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, who graduated from Monsters University to become a top Scarer. When he arrives at the Monsters, Incorporated power plant, he discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in. After Tylor is temporarily reassigned to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT), he must work alongside a misfit bunch of mechanics while setting his sights on becoming a Jokester.
The series will feature previously-announced cast members Ben Feldman (Superstore) as Tylor, Mindy Kaling (Late Night) as Val, Henry Winkler (Barry) as Fritz, Lucas Neff (Trash Truck) as Duncan and Alanna Ubach (Coco) as Cutter — all of them new to the world of Monsters, Inc. Several cast members from the original film, including Billy Crystal (The Comedians), John Goodman (The Connors) and Bonny Hunt (Escape at Dannemora), are set to reprise their roles for the series as Mike, Sully and Flint, respectively.
The first Monsters, Inc. film from Pixar Animation Studios and distributor Walt Disney Pictures premiered in 2001 to much acclaim and box office success. A prequel film titled Monsters University was released in 2013.
Monsters at Work was developed and is executive produced by Bobs Gannaway (Mike Mouse Club). Episodes will be released weekly beginning July 7 on Disney+.
