Disney’s ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ Announces New Cast Member Emma Caulfield

It has been announced, via The Hollywood Reporter, that Emma Caulfield (Once Upon Time, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will be reprising her role as Dottie Jones in Disney’s new show Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The show that was previously named Agatha: House of Harkness, is a spinoff of the Marvel show WandaVision and will star Kathryn Hahn (Transparent, Bad Moms) as the witch Agatha Harkness.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Caulfield announced in an interview that she has been fighting multiple sclerosis for over ten years. The actress talked about her decision to go public and how she wants to raise awareness for MS. She also talked about her fear that her diagnosis might affect her acting career. Throughout the years Caulfield has appeared in series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Good Girls, and Supergirl

Disney has not released many details of Agatha: Coven of Chaos outside of the involvement of Hahn. The involvement of Caulfield in the series is the biggest update regarding the show. The series is being written by head writer Jac Schaeffer who was also part of the WandaVision crew.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos is one of the many Marvel series set to premiere in 2023. Other series include Secret Invasion, Echo, Ironheart, and the second season of Loki

Agatha and Dottie first showed up in the Marvel TV series WandaVision. They were both part of the neighborhood where Wanda Maximoff played by Elizabeth Olsen (MCU, Godzilla) and Vision played by Paul Bettany (MCU, Uncle Frank) lived. Dottie is first introduced in episode two “Don’t Touch That Dial” where she is the leader of the committee that is organizing the Talent Show for the town. In a continuation of the previous scene, Dottie has a conversation with Wanda that is interrupted by a weird message on the radio. This leads to Dottie questioning the voice on the radio and appearing to forget who Wanda is. Dottie makes appearances in other episodes, but this is her most important scene since it hints at what is going on outside of Westview.

On the other hand, Agatha shows up in every episode. It is revealed at the end of the show that she has been manipulating Wanda so that she can use Wanda’s power.  In episode seven “Breaking the Fourth Wall” Agatha reveals she is a powerful witch. The audience gets a glimpse into the backstory of both Agatha and Wanda, and her motivations for what she is doing to Wanda.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos is set to premiere in Winter 2023.
