Unfortunately for fans of the popular Disney series Lizzie McGuire, Disney has reportedly abandoned all plans for making a Lizzie reboot, according to Deadline. Back in March, Hilary Duff took to Instagram to write about how excited she was to portray an older and more experienced version of her character Lizzie Mcguire. Duff even suggested that Disney move the show over to Hulu so her character wouldn’t be confined within the barriers of making PG content. She recently released an Instagram post concerning the reboot.
The series creator Terri Minsky (Writer, Andi Mack) split from the production back in January, which started the snowball of the show’s downfall. Also considering the history of posts from Duff, and now her latest post stating “but sadly despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen. I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves.” This series does not have a bright future of being made.
The shows future was stifled by creative differences over what kind of content a reboot like this could display. Duff’s posts lend credence to her love of the character. She wants to portray this character as authentic as possible and fans responded to that in the original show so it would be wise to keep true to her character.
The original show Lizzie McGuire aired on Disney from 2001 to 2004 and revolved around an adolescent teenage girl navigating the ups and downs of school, popularity, friendships, romance, and more. The show became incredibly popular and found a loyal fan base that Duff values to this day. As a goodbye to the character, she told her fans “I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align. Hey now, this is what 2020’s made of,” as stated in Duff’s most recent Instagram post.
