Disney+ Renews ‘The Santa Clauses’ for a Second Season

After the premiere of the season finale of the first season of The Santa Clauses, Disney+ has announced that the show will be renewed and the audience will be getting second season with the Clauses, according to Deadline. Tim Allen (Last Man Standing, Toy Story) and Elizabeth Mitchell (Outer Banks, First Kill) are set to reprise their roles as Mr. and Mrs. Clause. 

The franchise started in 1994 with the original Santa Clause, in which Scott Calvin becomes Santa Claus after accidentally scaring his predecessor and making him fall off the roof. The second Santa Clause movie came out in 2002 and in this movie, Santa has to find a wife, and he meets the future Mrs. Claus, Carol played by Mitchell. The last installment in the Santa Clause franchise is Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause in which we are shown how being Santa has affected Scott and Carol’s life and the start of their family. This movie also introduces the famous villain Jack Frost played by Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building, The Morning Show). 

The Santa Clauses focuses on Scott deciding that he wants to retire after thirty years of being Santa. He makes this decision to leave Santa’s responsibilities behind amid the declining popularity of the holiday, so, he decides to move with his family back to the human world. While the family tries to adapt to life outside the North Pole, elves suddenly start vanishing from existence. Calvin also chooses his successor before leaving but soon realizes that his successor is not the right person for the job. Instead of doing his best to save Christmas, he is destroying it. This will lead Scott and his family to try to fix his mistake and try to save Christmas. 

According to Deadline, the show is executive produced by Allen, Jack Burditt (Modern Family, Great News) who is also the showrunner, Kevin Hench (Last Man Standing, Cristela), Richard Baker (The Santa Clause 2, The Drew Carey Show), Rick Messina (Burning Hollywood, Last Man Standing), Jason Winer (Single Parents, Life in Pieces) and Jon Radler (The Ms. Pat Show, The Big Leap) for Small Dog Picture Company. 

Season one of The Santa Clauses premiered on November 16 and is available to stream on Disney+. The three Santa Clause movies are also available to watch on the streaming platform.
