Disney Renews ‘Tangled: The Series’ for Season Two Ahead of Series Premiere

Mandy Moore’s curse of shows that are one-and-done has finally been broken. Not only is her newest show This Is Us renewed for two more seasons, but Entertainment Weekly reported that her Disney Channel show, Tangled: The Series, has been renewed for a second season before the premiere of the show entirely.

Tangled: The Series takes place in between the events in the 2010 Disney movie and the 2012 short film Tangled: Ever After, which featured the wedding of Rapunzel (Moore) and Eugene (Zachary Levi). The show will focus on Rapunzel as she tries to find her place the kingdom of Corona after finding out she was the missing princess that was kidnapped at birth by Mother Gothel.

Moore and Levi will be reprising their roles in the TV series and Alan Menken, who worked on the music in the 2010 film (and many other popular Disney movies), will be making music for the TV series.

According to PublicNowTangled: The Series has a bevy of well-known Hollywood stars who are part of the voice cast. In addition to Moore and Levi, Julie Bowen, Jeffrey Tambor, Sean Hayes, Jeff Ross and Laura Benanti will all be featured in the series in one way or another.

2016 and 2017 seems to have broken Moore’s so-called “curse” of TV shows that have been canceled after one season or weren’t picked up from development. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight back in August (before the premiere of This Is Us and the two-season pick up of both This Is Us and Tangled: The Series) she said “It was sort of a soul-crushing thing to be a part of pilot season year after year and for things not to move forward. Not to sound cheesy but I’m a big believer that things happen for a reason.”

The shows that Moore are referencing include The Advocate, which was a CBS drama pilot from 2013 that wasn’t picked up by the network, and Fox’s Red Band Society, which was canceled after a single season despite some critical praise.

Tangled: The Series premieres on Disney Channel on Mar. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The first season finale of This Is Us will air on Mar. 14.
