Disney Cancels Prague Shoot for ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ Over Coronavirus

Due to the threat and spread of the coronavirus, the upcoming Disney+ and Marvel Studios series The Falcon and The Winter Solider has canceled production in Prague, according to Deadline. The series has been shooting the majority of its content in Atlanta. Yet, the series’ production has been postponed twice now, in January due to an earthquake in Puerto Rico and the coronavirus in March. Despite these delays for the Marvel-Disney series, Disney+ projects the action drama program and its six-episode first season to hit its streaming service in August. However, this is subject to change with future developments on the fast-spreading virus.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier comes highly anticipated from Marvel and Disney and is a vital component of Phase Four of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. Following the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, the new series will depict the transition of Captain America to Sam Wilson as he teams up with Bucky Barnes to seek justice and adventure. Anthony Mackie (8 Mile and The Hurt Locker) will be returning as Wilson/Falcon for the new series while Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl and I, Tonya) will do likewise with Barnes/Winter Soldier. This new series is one of the many upcoming Marvel projects. Currently, future Marvel series include Loki starring Tom Hiddleston and Wandavision starring Elizabeth Olsen (Wind River) and Paul Bettany (Da Vinci Code).

With the suspension of a three-week shoot in Prague, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is among various programs, films, and even Hollywood offices to close or delay their production schedule due to the coronavirus outbreak. In addition to the new Marvel and Disney co-production, series such as Riverdale has postponed its season four production and Netflix has closed off its office headquarters. However, the future series has been shooting regularly for months and hopefully will be ready in time for fans to consume the latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
