Disney+ Announces ‘The Proud Family’ Revival

Disney+ is continuing its nostalgic catalog with the announcement for the revival of an early 2000s original program, The Proud Family, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The animated Disney comedy was beloved by its fanbase and was critically acclaimed, winning a BET Outstanding Animated Series Award in 2004. The Proud Family ran from 2001 to 2005 over the course of fifty-two episodes, in addition to The Proud Family Movie which aired as an original Disney Channel film at the conclusion of the show’s run. The revitalization of the animated show will be titled The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder and will feature the original creator, executive producers, and voice actors in the new season.

The reboot of a Disney classic will bring back the The Proud Family creator and executive producer Bruce W. Smith (Academy Award-winning Director of Hair Love), executive producer Ralph Farquhar (Writer for Real Husbands of Hollywood), and the executive producer and story editor Calvin Brown Jr (Writer for Real Husbands of Hollywood). Furthermore, the voice actors will be reprising their original roles in the new series, including Kyla Pratt (Penny Proud), Paul Jai Parker (Trudy Proud), Tommy Davidson (Oscar Proud), Jo Marie Payton (Suga Mama), Soleil Moon Fryer (Zoey Howzer), Karen Malina White (Dijonay Jones), Alisa Reyes (LaCienega Boulevardez), and Cedric the Entertainer (Uncle Bobby Proud). While many rebooted series run into the issue of not being able to obtain their original spark, the announcement of the return of the early 2000s creator, producers, and cast signal greater anticipation to witness the Proud household on the small screen once again.

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder marks one of many revitalized Disney originals to grace its streaming service platform in the coming future. In addition to this animated revival, Disney+ currently has Monsters at Work (Monsters Inc. series), a reboot of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Forky Asks a Question (based on Toy Story 4), as well as High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and a revival of Lizzie McGuire in its current and upcoming library. The addition of the rebooted version of Proud Family has 2000s Disney fans excited for another Disney+ medium to satisfy their childhood memories. For old and new fans of The Proud Family, the entire original series’ library is available for streaming on Disney+.
