Disney+ Announces Preorder Option during Emmys

Disney+ is now available for preorder before its November 12 release date. Disney announced the news Sunday night in an ad during the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards. The forthcoming streaming service will host library of past and present shows from Lucasfilm, Marvel, Pixar, National Geographic, and the Disney vault as well as an array of new series exclusive to the platform. Among the new offerings will be superhero shows Ms. Marvel and Loki and Star Wars series The Mandalorian. Per press release cited by Deadline, Disney+ will launch with 25 original shows and 10 original movies and documentaries available to stream. Many more are planned for the years to come. The service will run $6.99 per month or $69.99 annually, and will offer a seven day free trial. There is no difference in price associated with the option to preorder.

Disney+ is one of several streaming services hitting the market in the near future. Earlier this month, Apple announced that its long-awaited Apple TV+ would be hitting the market on November 1st, eleven days before Disney’s offering. That particular service will beat Disney+ on price as well at $5 per month. In addition to Apple TV+, next year will see NBC Universal’s Peacock and Warner’s HBO Max added to the market. Disney’s subsidiary ESPN also has its own subscription offering in ESPN+.

New offerings like these are set to change a market that has been dominated by Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime in recent years. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings called the changing streaming market “whole new world” earlier this month, saying of the new array of streaming options, “It’ll be tough competition. Direct-to-consumer [viewers] will have a lot of choice.”

Disney+ is set to launch on November 12th for $6.99 per month.
