One of Grand Admiral Thrawn’s loyal followers will be back. According to Entertainment Weekly, Diana Lee Inosanto (The Last Tour, The Sensei) who played The Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth in The Mandalorian “Chapter 13: The Jedi” will be reprising her role for Ahsoka. When we meet Inosanto’s character she is fighting Ahsoka with a beskar staff as Ahsoka tries to learn more about Grand Admiral Thrawn. The Magistrate is then defeated by Ahsoka and the beskar staff is handed to Din Djarin. Watch some images from that episode below.
According to Entertainment Weekly, little is known about The Magistrate. The audience learns that The Magistrate’s people were massacred during the Clone Wars, so she joined the Empire to get revenge and punish anything and everyone who got in her way. It is unknown how The Magistrate obtained the beskar staff, but she uses it with great expertise in her fight with Ahsoka.
Even the actress who played The Magistrate knew much about her character. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly’s Dagobah Dispatch, the actress revealed she didn’t even know her character had a name until the episode aired. At the moment the information went unknown since in that same episode it was revealed the real name of Grogu. Inosanto also revealed that she didn’t know that her character was coming back for the Ahsoka series.
When asked for more information about her character, Inosanto explained what the series creator Dave Filoni (Star Wars: Resistance, Star Wars: The Bad Batch) said about the character. She said in the interview, “The beautiful thing was, Dave was always there to assist me on what her backstory is. She’s quite the manipulator, and we all know she’s cold-hearted, but this is a character that is truly dedicated and loyal to Grand Admiral Thrawn. And there’s nothing getting in her way.”
This interview has revealed more information about the allies that surround Grand Admiral Thrawn now that the Empire has fallen. Inosanto explained that in Ahsoka the audience will get to learn what drove The Magistrate to such extremes, the show will develop her backstory and will reveal why she decided to join forces with Grand Admiral Thrawn.
The cast of the show includes Rosario Dawson (Dopesick, Luke Cage) as Ahsoka; Lars Mikkelsen (Sherlock, The Witcher) as Grand Admiral Thrawn; the late Ray Stevenson (Vikings, RRR) as Baylan Skoll; Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society, Day Shift) as Sabine Wren; Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey, Kate) as Hera Syndulla; Ivanna Sakhno (The Reunion, Let It Snow) as Shin Hati; Eman Esfandi (The Inspection, King Richard) as Ezra Bridger; Wes Chatman (The Expanse, Hunger Games) as Captain Enoch; and David Tennant (Doctor Who, Good Omens) reprising his role from Clone Wars as the droid Huyang. According to Deadline, there are rumors that Hayden Christensen (The Last Man, First Kill) is returning to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker.
While the plot for the show has been kept mostly under wraps, fans have theorized that the show will have something to do with finding Ezra Bridger, whom Ahsoka met in Rebels. The theory is supported by including characters like Grand Admiral Thrawn, Sabine Wren, and Hera Syndulla, all characters from Rebels. The epilogue of Rebels also shows Ahsoka visiting the Ghost Crew, Hera, and Sabine, after the Battle of Endor to look for Ezra and Thrawn who disappeared together.
Ahsoka is set to premiere in August of 2023 on Disney+. All seasons of Clone Wars and Rebels are available to stream on Disney+. The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett are also available on Disney+. The Star Wars movies are also available to watch on Disney+.
