‘Dexter’ Showrunner Promises ‘Stunning’ Surprises In ‘New Blood’

Dexter has been off the air since 2013, but on Nov. 7th the show will return in the form of a ten episode mini series Dexter: New Blood. The show will see the return of Clyde Phillips (Feed The Beast, Suddenly Susan), the original series’ showrunner for the first four seasons, and in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes and The Hollywood Reporter he teased quite a few elements of fanfare.

Specifically, Phillips promised fans a “stunning” ending to this series to make up for the disappointing ending to the original series.

“So far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale… This is an opportunity to make that right. But that’s not why we’re doing it,” Phillips said in the interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

In this new show, audiences will find the title character, Dexter Morgan played by Michael C. Hall (Gamer, Six feet Under), laying low in upstate New York as a mild mannered store owner. However, reports from TVline and the show’s own trailer suggest that Dexter’s “Dark Passenger” is not so easily sedated and will arise for yet another spree of vigilante murder.

Phillips has also teased the return of the Trinity Killer, the season four antagonist from the original show and also the last villain Phillips oversaw as showrunner of the show. Trinity was played by John Lithgow (Third Rock From The Sun, Shrek) and Phillips also said that Jen Carpenter (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, White Chicks) will be returning to play Dexter’s sister from the original: Deb.

New comers to the show include Clancy Brown (Spongebob Squarepants, The Shawshank Redemption) as the friendly neighbor to Dexter, Julia Jones (Wind River, Cold Pursuit) as Dexter’s new love interest and sheriff, and also Jack Alcott (Good Lord Bird, When The Streetlights Go On) as Dexter’s own son: Harrison.
