If David Duchovny gets his way, then we may be able to look forward to more of The X-Files on Fox.
Today The X-Files star Tweeted to his co-star, Gillian Anderson, hinting that the series might come back for more episodes.
The X-Files originally ran from 1993 to 2002 on Fox for a total of nine seasons. The series ended with a feature film, and in 2008 a second film was released. Then in 2016, The X-Files was revived for a short six-episode run on Fox.
The X-Files followed FBI agents Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) who were tasked with investigating the “X-Files.” These X-Files referred to unsolved cases which involved paranormal elements. Even years after the show aired, the series is considered a classic for its mysteries and search for alien contact.
No official word has been released as to whether or not we will be seeing more of The X-Files, but it would look like Fox shares Duchovny’s sentiments and would like to see more of the series. At Fox’s presentation at the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday, Deadline reports that David Madden, the networks entertainment president, revealed that there are serious discussions currently underway to bring back The X-Files for another run. However, it would be another limited run similar to the one which aired earlier this year.
TV Line reports that at the TCA’s, Dana Walden, the chairman and CEO the Fox Television Group, said, “We would have liked to have done more [episodes] in the first place. It was really the limitations of David and Gillian and Chris’ schedules. Gillian lives in the UK, David lives in New York and California, and we do the show in Vancouver. Chris lives up north. So it was just trying to coordinate a time where they all carve out a period to be in Vancouver.”
Walden also said that if The X-Files were to return for an 11th season, it has the potential to be slightly longer than the previous six-episode revival. This is because the network and those involved would have more time to plan. “We’re in conversations that intentionally we could do more,” she said. “I don’t imagine it being a full season of The X-Files, but I would be really happy if we were able to get eight to 10 episodes.”
