David Denman Joins Parenthood

The Office alum David Denman is joining Parenthood, and it may spell trouble for Joel and Julia.

Denman played Pam’s (Jenna Fischer) fiancee Roy in the earlier seasons of the Office.  Recently he starred in the ill-fated comedy Traffic Light and had an arc as Tony Nicastro in Drop Dead Diva. According to E! Online, Denman will be playing Ed in the new season of Parenthood.  Reportedly, Ed will get to know Julia (Erika Christensen) a lot better this season when he steps into the role of Ed, a stay-at-home dad who lands at the same volunteer group as Julia at their kids’ school.

According to TVLine, Denman’s character will not be the only threat to Joel and Julia marriage in the upcoming season.  It was announced earlier this month that Lost actress Sonya Walger was joining the series as Meredith, a “sexy, confident fireball of an architect” working with Joel (Sam Jaeger).

Huffington Post reports that Matt Lauria will officially return to his role as Amber’s (Mae Whitman) love interest Ryan York and is rumored to appear in about half the episodes of the new season.  This follows the news that Ray Romano will also be returning as Sarah’s (Lauren Graham) love interest Hank in the show’s 5th season. Drop Dead Diva‘s Josh Stamberg will also recur on the series as Carl, who is described as “a charming and fun new addition in Sarah’s building.”

Parenthood returns for Season 5 on Thursday, September 26 at 10 p.m. EST.
