Darren Star (Younger) continues his relationship with ViacomCBS after striking a deal with the company’s Entertainment & Youth Group, according to Deadline. This is Star’s second deal with Viacom after signing a pact with TV Land in 2016.
Star will continue to create new projects for ViacomCBS; every project will be produced by MTV Studios, led by President of MTV Chris McCarthy. Under the new agreement, Entertainment and Youth Group Studios president Keith Cox will oversee all of Star’s work. Cox is familiar with Star as he was the executive who originally developed Younger, comedy drama series featuring Star.
McCarthy oversees many networks including Paramount Network, Comedy Central, MTV, and more. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he said “Darren is creative force behind some of the most seminal shows of our time and we are thrilled he will continue to call ViacomCBS his home as we rapidly expand our studios business.” Cox furthered his statement, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, by saying, “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Darren who has his finger on the pulse of pop culture like no other,” said Cox. “He’s a proven hit-maker whose storytelling has captivated generations and we’re elated to be in business with him for the long-term.”
Star’s most notable project Younger just recently finished its sixth season, with its finale receiving high ratings. The series has been renewed for a seventh cycle, making it the longest running original scripted series on its cable network TV Land.
Star is also in the process of writing and executive producing the comedy drama television series Emily In Paris, featuring Lily Collins. The series is about a girl named Emily, a driven young American adult who moves to Paris for an unexpected job opportunity. She navigates through her new opportunity while being tasked with bringing an American point of view to a French marketing firm. It was set to premiere on Paramount Network, but may end up streaming on Netflix instead as reported by Vulture.
Other credits of Star’s include Sex and the City, 90210, Beverly Hills, among others.
