AMC’s critically acclaimed series, Dark Winds, has announced a premiere date for its highly anticipated fourth season. According to the official press release, fans can return to the period crime drama on Sunday, February 15, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Along with the date, the network has released an exclusive teaser. View the clip below.
The clip, which will make its network debut during Sunday’s premiere of Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order, features narration from show lead Lt. Joe Leaphorn, played by Zahn McClarnon (Reservation Dogs, Castlevania: Nocturne). The first-look teaser hints at a sinister case involving a missing Navajo girl, taking our Navajo Tribal Police force to foreign land: 1970s Los Angeles. In addition to this new case, Leaphorn will struggle with balancing his sanity and morality with the level of carnage that has become commonplace.
Based on the 1970s crime novels by Tony Hillerman (Listening Woman, Blessing Way), Dark Winds follows McClarnon’s Leaphorn as he leads a small tribal police department on the Navajo reservation in New Mexico. Leaphorn is joined by Kiowa Gordon’s (The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico) Jim Chee and Jessica Matten’s (Rez Ball, Burden of Truth) Bernadette Mauelito. Deanna Allison (Accused, Edge of America) makes up the main cast as Leaphorn’s wife, Emma. Boasting a rare 100% Rotten Tomatoes score for each season, the show is executive-produced by the late Robert Redford (The Natural, Public Trust) and George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon). The series first premiered in 2022. Its third season arrived this year, with an extended eight-episode season.
Last season, Leaphorn and Lee searched for two missing Navajo boys, while Bernadette’s new border patrol position placed her in the crosshairs of a powerful businessman.
Season four will return with eight episodes and boast an array of new cast members, including Franka Potente (Mayfair Witches, Castlevania: Nocturne) and Titus Welliver (Bosch: Legacy, Ricky). Potente joins as Irene Vaggan, while Welliver is Dominic McNair, described as “a ruthless crime boss who imports and exports drugs and stolen luxury goods into and out of Los Angeles.”
Isabel DeRoy-Olson (Fancy Dance, Under the Bridge) plays Billie Tsosie, a Navajo teen who finds herself out of her element when seeking something more than her boarding school existence. Chaske Spencer (The Twilight Saga, Blindspot) is Sonny, a recruiter for an LA crime ring that tempts Native American men from their lives on the reservation. Luke Barnett (The Crossing Over Express, For All Mankind) plays FBI Special Agent Toby Shaw, and A. Martinez (Longmire, Days of Our Lives) returns as Chief Gordo Sena.
In addition to Redford and Martin, the series is executive produced by creator Graham Roland (Almost Human, The Returned), showrunner John Wirth (Hell on Wheels, Hap and Leonard), McClarnon, Chris Erye (Smoke Signals), Tina Elmo (The Mustang, Sex and the City), Jim Chory (Heroes, Jessica Jones), Thomas Brady (Lioness, NOS4A2), Max Hurwitz (ZeroZeroZero, Manhunt), Vince Gerardis (Game of Thrones, Jumper), and Anne Hillerman. McClarnon will make his directorial debut within the season.
All three seasons of Dark Winds are available to stream on AMC+ and through Netflix’s The AMC Collection. Season three arrives on the streamer on Monday, October 27.
