Dark Days Ahead for Marvel’s ‘Runaways’

Marvel and Hulu released a poster for its third season of Runaways today; the streaming service will drop all ten episodes on December 13. The show was the first live-action, teen drama on Marvel’s T.V. roster. In its third season,  Runaways seems to have found an audience and home at Hulu.

In hopes of broadening their target audience, Marvel finally took a chance on the cult classic comic book series written by Brian K. Vaughn. Marvel dived into a new corner of their world with executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, known for The O.C., at the helm.

Runaways follows six teenagers in L.A. that discover their parents are part of a cult that sacrifices teenagers for an evil alien. At the end of season one, the teens decide to take down their parents cult and run away. So far the show has been pretty isolated from the rest of the Marvel TV roster. As the only Marvel show on Hulu, it seemed that these unfortunate runaways were destined for isolation in Southern California forever. Finally, Marvel and Hulu announced in August that Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger characters would be featured in a crossover during the third season of Runaways. Currently, Cloak and Dagger has not been renewed for its third season yet, so this is big news for their fans. Another Marvel character these teens will be meeting this season? Morgan Le Fay

Super Marvel fans might recognize the name of one of the parents in the show. Tina Minuro. For those who don’t know, Tina Minuro was a name in the credits of the 2016 film Doctor Strange. In an interview with IGN Schwartz acknowledges this fact and what it means for Runaways. “She was only named in the credits so it’s nothing that really affects us.” He goes on to assure the audience that, “…we were very capable of telling the story we wanted to tell independent of any of the other Marvel stories that are out there.”

After the MCU’s Infinity War and Endgame fans are craving more meetups with their favorite superheroes! Who votes to bring these teens to NYC and let them have a nice vacation at the Avengers Tower with the rest of Earth’s mightiest defenders?
