Danny Boyle to Direct Upcoming Channel 4 Pilot

Feature film director Danny Boyle is returning to scripted television for the first time in 12 years, the Independent reports. He is slated to direct the pilot episode of the upcoming police dramedy Babylon, which will air on Channel 4 in the UK.

Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong are signed on to write the pilot. As the team behind the long-running comedy series Peep Show, Bain and Armstrong have found success on Channel 4 in the past.

Not many details about the project have yet been revealed, but it is expected to focus on “the subject of modern British policing.” Channel 4 executive Jay Hunt has indicated she is “hugely excited” about the pilot, though there has been no word on when it will air.

Boyle’s directing credits include “Slumdog Millionaire”, “127 Hours” and the recent “Trance”. He also directed the opening ceremony for the 2012 London Olympic Games. His last venture into television took place in 2001 with the TV movie “Vacuuming Completely Nude in Paradise”.
